There are games called MUDs that would work just fine for you.
MUD is an acronym for Multi User Dungeon
Massively multiplayer, text based, and free.
Google search MUDs and find yourself a good Telnet MUD client program.

blackfire (blackfire.winterdale.com) port 4000. best mud there is imo.
